Public Mosaic Art
Mosaic art is an ancient form of adorning public spaces and is still used today in many countries. The earliest known Greek figurative mosaics with representational motifs, dates from the end of the 5th century BC. The material often used is small pieces of tiles and ceramics, put together resulting in a mosaic artwork.
Workshops
This method of building a mosaic artwork is very participative and collaborative, making big mosaic artwork together with the community. During the workshop, the participants are being guided from sketch to a finished mosaic figure. After the workshops, the artwork is assembled at the chosen location, and finally applied on the wall. The process concludes with an exhibition for all participants. Depending of the demand, a process can include a smaller group of 10 participants as well as over 500 can be involved.
Benefits
Community based art gives a lot of advantages, neighbours that didn’t know each other make art together, children and old people creates with the same entusiasm and the result is often surprising to everyone “Did I do this?”. People tend to feel very proud about the artwork and they take care of it.
